Fibonaccident
Microlude on the first 12 numbers of the Fibonacci Sequence
for Toy Piano, Piano, and Colored Wooden Blocks
The Concept
Fibonaccident explores the collision between the strict logic of numerical succession and the randomness of the sonic event. The generative matrix of the piece consists of the first 12 numbers of the Fibonacci sequence, which dictate the development of a rigorous melodic series. This series is entrusted to an instrument as small as it is unusual: the toy piano.
The Performance
The work is not limited to listening; it is completed through a ritualistic and visual action. The toy piano performer engages in a choreographic performance involving the systematic arrangement and removal of colored wooden blocks, each associated with the numerical values of the sequence. It is a process of spatial construction and deconstruction that renders the invisible architecture of the music visible to the eye.
Visual Direction
While the toy piano is the protagonist of the action, the grand piano remains intentionally concealed. It acts as a pure sonic presence, a "ghostly" resonance dialoguing with the physical and chromatic matter of the performance. This creates a play of contrasts between the clarity of the physical gesture and the mystery of the acoustic source.
